Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden title for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a former number one, has endured a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in particular - caused him falling of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and his other coach, he has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents his maiden trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since spring of the previous year.

The win also means Medvedev has won twenty-one victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his previous six finals, including in Halle previously this season.

The player's counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the highest level was concluded.

However the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour victory, seized the initiative to create a final set.

Moutet saved four early chances in a tight deciding set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
